Assisting with Intercourse Dwelling Fire
Author:Captain Chris Beiler
Sat, Jan 17th, 2009 12:20:00 pm - At 1220 hours this afternoon, Rescue 4-2 along with units from 4-3 and 4-5, were dispatched to assist the Intercourse Fire Company (4-4) on a dwelling fire.  Upon arrival, Chief 4-4 (Dienner), confirmed a working fire, and established Command 4-4.  Truck 4-2 was requested to the scene, and a short time later, the 2nd alarm was dispatched.  The Rescue arrived and was given instructions to ventilate the roof.  While interior crews from 4-4 made an attack on the fire, the Rescue crew used ground ladders to get to the roof and perform the vertical ventilation.  The Truck arrived and put the aerial ladder to the roof, threw ground ladders, and started horizontal ventilation.  Crews also assisted 4-4 in attacking the fire in the attic and second floor areas.  The fire, which started in the basement, was contained to the walls in the upper floors on the "B" side of the dwelling.  The house was of balloon construction, which allowed the fire to travel unimpeded from the basement to the attic.  After overhaul was performed, 4-2 crews were released and returned to station.  Thanks to Station 28 (Parkesburg) for standing by at our station with their Tower.
