Members of the Gap Fire Company attended a Haz Mat refresher course hosted by the Kinzer Fire Company (4-5) and instructed by Ken Hudson, Sr.. Training is a big part of the Gap Fire Company, and tonight the volunteers took the opportunity to practice extrication techniques on a car using the hydraulic rescue tools. Evolutions involving door and roof removal, as well as a dash roll and dash lift were performed. The Gap Fire Company would like to extend our condolences to the Sauder Family and The Willow Street Fire Company on the passing of Bob Sauder. Bob lost his battle with cancer earily this morning. Today is a sad day in Lititz as the news of the passing of Hannah Garman, As we recall, the 5 year old little girl was diagnosed with a rare and aggressive cancerous brain tumor called glibolastoma multiforme in October 2008. Today the company traveled to Quarryville, the host of the 89th annual Lancaster County Firemans Convention. The day started off by taking the Engine, Truck, and Chemical Hand Pumper to the Smith Middle School for judging. After judging, the apparatus was lined up with units from all over Pennsylvania, Delaware, and Maryland. In the early morning hours, the Truck was dispatched to assist the Kinzer Fire Company (4-5) for a building fire at 23 Ocola Drive in Paradise Township. Chief 4-5 (Brubaker) arrived on location and reported a 10 x 20 storage shed well involved. At 4:25am, the Lancaster County Wide Communications dispatched Station 4-2 for a vehicle accident in the area of 5820 Route 30. Since the accident was believed to be at the county line, Chester Station 26 (Atglen) and Chester Station 28 (Parkesburg) were also notified. Chief 4-2-2 (McGowan) arrived on location and reported a single vehicle accident down an embankment, and confirmed that it was in Chester County. At 4 p.m. the company, along with surrounding mutual aid companies, was sent to the 5400 block of Valley View Dr in Salisbury Township for a reported house fire. As the sun was setting in the west, the Gap Fire Company was dispatched to a call in the east. Around 7:30pm the alarm sounded for an investigation in the 700 block of Willow Lane in the Crestwood Estate Mobile Home Park.
